dragon-boating-in-the-941The inaugural Suncoast International Dragon Boat Festival will take place at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, March 19, 2016. This exciting and interactive community event promotes the new paddling/rowing venue at Nathan Benderson Park, while celebrating a healthy lifestyle and team spirit.

Organized by SANCA, In the Pink, and Pan Am Dragon Boat Association, the festival will host 50 teams with more than a thousand athletes. Proceeds from the event benefit In the Pink, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping men, women and children heal, cope and survive the effects of cancer, both physically and emotionally.

Dragon Boat Club teams include corporate, community, and breast cancer teams, among others. And, the exciting ‘Fit941 Fitness Cup Challenge,’ where local gyms, boot camps, clubs and fitness groups are encouraged to create their own team. The dragon boat festival’s ‘Fit941 Fitness Cup Challenge’ allows beginners a way to test their fitness.

Dragon boating is the fastest growing water sport in the world with teams racing in more than 80 countries. There are major festivals in cities throughout Florida, including Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Key West, Tavares and Jacksonville…and now Sarasota.
