Sending Sarasota Off On The Right Foot
When Molly and David Jackson purchased the Fleet Feet Sports’ Sarasota franchise more than four years ago, they knew it was a perfect fit. They have been helping Sarasota’s running and fitness community for more than a decade. Their aim is to inspire people through education and training to lead a more active, healthy, and fun lifestyle.
In February, the Fleet Feet store moved from the former site down the road to 711 S. Osprey Avenue, across from P.F. Chang’s and next to Word of Mouth. The new location offers a larger space. “We will be able to offer a larger selection of high quality shoes, accessories, and apparel,” says Molly. “And, we’ll continue to provide shoe fit expertise, and have room to expand our popular training programs.” The new place has a separate room where training programs, events, clinics and classes will be held-a plus, when outdoor temperatures heat up, or summer rains prohibit outdoor activities.
Fleet Feet has been ‘bringing people to their feet’ starting at the top, with owner David Jackson being a certified Pedorthist. The Jacksons also own New Balance Sarasota and New Balance University Park. Their team of professional shoe fitters at each location adapt Fleet Feet’s FITLOSOPHY™: the “commitment to the concept of a proper FIT in all aspects of our lives,” when servicing customers. The fitness experts apply years of experience and extensive training when selecting the perfect shoes, sports bras and technical apparel for individual needs. Once consumers find a shoe that fits right, the experts determine how running, walking, or an active lifestyle fits into their life.
Fleet Feet offers special training and weight loss programs; educational clinics on proper nutrition, choosing the right gear, and avoiding injury. Plus Fleet Feet supports free fun runs and sponsors other community events.
Whitney Bartlett, a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, leads the No Boundaries program, in which all levels of walkers and runners benefit from competing in a 5K. At the new location, No Boundaries will remain consistent. Bartlett says, “it is one of the most popular programs that we do. It’s just a great opportunity for all fitness levels to get in and do a great goal race. Whether your motivation is getting off the couch or increasing your speed, we have coaches and experts to help. We have a ton of things on the horizon.”
Some new activities concentrate on lifestyle and fitness integration, such as lunch-and-learn, core classes, yoga classes, in which strengthens the core and makes you a better walker or runner.
The staff at Fleet Feet consists of personal trainers and certified yoga experts. “The cool thing is,” says Bartlett, “we have two showers in our facility. So, people can come to Fleet Feet and get fitted for their perfect shoes, apparel, and socks; then, take a workout class, then go to work. Not only are we expanding the store, but we’re expanding all the things (that will help our guests live) a more fit life.”
